Break and enters in Oceanside recently have been linked to a man who rings the doorbell before entering.
On Aug. 31 at 7:30 a.m. a resident on Park View Place notified police of a break in.
"[The suspect] did ring the door bell twice, but she did not answer it,"said Cpl. Garry Cox from Oceanside RCMP.
The unknown male entered and took off when he saw the occupant.
Four minutes later, police received a similar call from a residence on McVickers Street.
A woman and her husband were woken by a ringing doorbell. A male suspect was seen through a window at the residence. The back door was broken with a rock but when the alleged suspect saw the couple, he left on a bicycle.
There were two successful break and enters on Aug. 31 as well.
At 11:23 a.m. a break and enter was discovered by a resident.
Cox said the home had been broken in at the back and a digital camera and a laptop stolen.
At 1:30 p.m. Aug. 31 a thief struck again while the home was empty.
"Point of entry was a patio door smashed with a rock,"Cox said. "All those may be possibly connected. They have similar MOs."
The possible suspect is described as 5'8, with sandy brown hair and a mustache and goatee. He was riding a mountain bike with a red pouch under the seat.
Cox said people don't have to answer the door if someone is ringing the bell. He suggested turning on some lights instead. He said break-ins occur when there is no sign of life.
